Haley (Hak) Kim focuses on international trade law, customs, economic sanctions, international business transactions, corporate governance, and mergers & acquisitions. She also has commercial litigation experience in matters involving bankruptcy, contract disputes, maritime law, and international arbitration.

Prior to joining LimNexus, Ms. Kim worked as general counsel for a global energy and resources shipping company, handling and overseeing a wide range of corporate transaction and litigation matters. While working as general counsel, Ms. Kim performed legal due diligence review on numerous target companies which were in bankruptcy proceedings and participated in successful acquisitions of three of the targeted companies. In litigation disputes involving the company, she advised management on the creditor and debtor’s rights and managed bankruptcy proceedings as counsel to the company.

Ms. Kim participated in the LLM program at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Law while at Ewha Womans University. She served as Editor in Chief of LEX Korea, the English-language law review at Ewha Womans University School of Law.

Representative Matters

  • Represented and counseled software companies, exporters and humanitarian organizations on U.S. sanctions law matters including North Korea, Iran, China, etc.
  • Represented and advised clients on licensing and regulatory responses with OFAC including responses to subpoenas and OFAC inquiries.
  • Represented and advised importers on U.S. customs law including detentions and responses to withhold release orders for goods from China.
  • Advised client on CFIUS requirements for foreign investment in the life sciences industry.
  • Represented and advised clients on obtaining exemptions from the UN Security Council for sanctions.
  • Counseled creditor in Samsung Logix Corporation bankruptcy in Korean Bankruptcy Court.
  • Counseled potential purchaser of assets from bankruptcy estate of Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd.
  • Advised client on licensing and registration requirements for international ocean freight forwarding in the U.S., Japan, China, and the UK.
