California’s Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Alert

Is Your Business Compliant with California’s Workplace Violence Prevention Plan?

As a California business, staying abreast of the state’s complex legal requirements is a constant priority. As your legal partner, we’d like to highlight a new deadline that many businesses may have missed: July 1, 2024.

As of this date, virtually all California employers with 10 or more employees were required to establish a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP). The legislation imposes new obligations on employers, and non-compliance can result in substantial penalties, starting at up to $25,000 per violation.

What Does the Law Require?

A compliant WVPP must include:

  • protocols for responding to and investigating incidents of workplace violence;
  • methods for identifying and correcting potential workplace violence hazards; and
  • a violent incident log and investigation records for the prior 5 years.

One key requirement of the law is that an employer must provide a copy of its plan to Cal OSHA upon request. Don’t get caught unprepared.

The deadline for compliance has passed, but it is not too late to take action. LimNexus is prepared to assist you in bringing your business into compliance.
