Congratulations to Bibi Mestar of Whittier Law School, who was awarded the Lim Ruger Foundation scholarship at the California Bar Foundation’s Impact Diversity Scholarship & Award Ceremony, held on September 17, 2015.
With minimal knowledge of the English language and the American culture, Ms. Mestar and her family emigrated from Baghdad to the United States at the start of her high school years. With hard work and extreme dedication, she graduated high school with honors and went on to acquire her bachelor’s in Sociology from Cal State Northridge, where she first decided to pursue a career in law. As a future star attorney, Ms. Mestar aspires to aid the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), a program dedicated to assisting Iraqi refugees and displaced families to help them navigate the rules and processes of resettlement in the United States.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Lim Ruger Foundation works hand in hand with several bar associations and a number of foundations to grant scholarships to law students of diverse backgrounds and minority communities.
